Health Insurance Counseling

Do you need health insurance?

Virginia Medicaid

In January 2019, Virginia Medicaid eligibility expanded and now more adults in Virginia have access to quality, low-cost and no-cost health insurance.  Virginians aged 19-64 can now submit an application to get the health care they need.  We have staff available to assist you with determining your Medicaid eligibility and help you to apply.

What do I need to know about the Affordable Care Act?

The Affordable Care Act creates a new way to purchase health insurance through what is known as the Health Insurance Marketplace.  The Marketplace allows low and moderate income families to find health insurance plans that meet their needs and budget.

What can I expect?

  • More affordable insurance with quality coverage
  • You could qualify for discount programs that will lower your monthly premiums and out of pocket expenses
  • All plans will cover prescription drugs, emergency services, hospitalizations, x-rays, labs, primary care visits (adult and pediatric), mental health, and more
  • Pre-existing conditions are covered without extra fees

How can I apply?

To apply please call HCHC at (540) 433-4913 to schedule your one-one-one appointment!  We will be able to help you through the application and enrollment process, free of charge.

Open Enrollment starts November 1st through December 15th each year.  If you miss it, don’t worry.  You can apply year round.  There are always Special Enrollment Periods you might qualify for.  And it’s never too late to get an exemption from the penalty for not having health insurance.
